Musin in the Mountains

Shepherdstown Library’s “Music In the Mountains” summer program offers up a month-long series of Tuesday events for kids and families. All events take place at 10:30 am.
Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, July 3, at the Shepherdstown Train Station, for ages three and older. The Rainbow Company will present the story of Sylvester the donkey, who is accidentally turned into a rock on Strawberry Hill. The play is based on William Steig’s award-winning picture book.
On July 10 at the train station, Mick Souter’s Touring Musical Theater will present an interactive show for all ages. Souter will sing about explorers, settlers, coal miners, and Civil War soldiers of West Virginia.
At the War Memorial Building, July 17, champion Irish dancer and choreographer Darrah Carr will present a show for ages four and older as part of the Seventh Annual Goose Route Dance Festival.
Hal Trapkin comes to the train station July 24 to explore the history of percussion and music in the United States. Trapkin’s interactive program for all ages features sound effects, rocket ships blasting off, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on the kettle drums, and other surprises that will leave you breathless!
Students from the Charles Town Dance Studio will perform the ballet Sleeping Beauty at the War Memorial Building July 31, an event for kids ages five and older. With music by Tchaikovsky, this classical ballet based on Perrault’s fairy tale tells the story of Princess Aurora, Prince Florimund, and the wicked Carabosse.

Sign up for these free events by visiting the Shepherdstown Library’s Children’s Department or by calling 876-2783. Tickets can be picked up the week before each performance. Shelley A. Marshall Foundation and the Friends of the Shepherdstown Library provided financial support for the program.
